Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Finish watching War of the Worlds. Fill in the two magazine spreads chart using the rubric.

English 9 A/A ~ Check for completed AGON words. Begin Shakespeare and Romeo & Juliet. Read and Discuss the following: Elizabethan Drama, The Globe Theater, The Globe Theater and Stage  Diagram, Shakespeare and Figurative Language, Romeo & Juliet Synopsis. Discussion on fate and astrological signs. HW: Complete vocab cards for the PHIL words.

Wednesday, April 18 and Thursday, April 19

Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Check for completed Dumb Laws script. Discuss how a non-verbal character may communicate. Read “The Stronger” and discuss. HW: Write a script that includes a non-verbal character. How might this character communicate their emotions?

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Now that the stress of lit mag is over since it has been PDFd and we’re waiting for the proof, it’s time to watch the 2005 film version of War of the Worlds!

English 9 A/A ~ Begin class with a Do Now. Discuss the mistakes. Check for completed Vocab 7 words BELL and AM words. Discuss Shakespeare’s life and Sonnet Form, Blank Verse, and Sonnets. Perform a scansion of Sonnet 18. Begin work on your own sonnet! Use the Sonnet Writing activity to create it. Use the Sonnet Rubric for details and how it will be graded. HW: Write vocab cards for AGON words: antagonize, protagonist, antagonist.

Thursday, April 12 and Friday, April 13

Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Share your completed Dumb Laws scripts. What are the positives? Suggestions for improvements? Discuss situations where a character cannot or is not given the opportunity to talk. Read and discuss the play, “The Stronger.” HW: Write a script involving two characters where one character does not speak. Rely on body language or gestures for the “silent” character to convey emotions.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Final day for lit mag design work. Questions? Don’t forget, you must have two completed spreads for grading. HW: Final Lit Mag Late Night is Thursday 4 to whenever. Pizza Party for the final evening!

English 9 A/A ~ Work with the Peer Tutoring students for a final review of your Odyssey Five-Paragraph Essay. HW: Final typed and printed Five Paragraph Odyssey essay due next class! Tuesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 11

Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Check for completed monologue scripts. Discuss beginning your “Dumb Laws” script. By yourself, or with a partner, write your Dumb Laws script. Make sure to brainstorm setting, plot, and characters. Dumb Laws script example. HW: Finish your Dumb Laws script and be prepared for reading it next class.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Continue designing for lit mag. Reminder: Deadline for proof is Thursday!  We still have late nights scheduled through Thursday until 7 PM. You MUST have attended at least 5 evening lit mag activities, three of those activities must be late nights. By Thursday, you have to have 2 completed spreads for a grade.

English 9 A/A ~ Return graded work. Review the 5 Paragraph Odyssey Essay. Discuss Essay Checklist and Works Cited page. Begin typing your essay. Don’t forget your Works Cited page! HW: Typed and printed 5 Paragraph Odyssey essay is due next class. Peer tutors will be working with students 1:1 on editing.

Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Begin Scriptwriting/Screenplay writing unit. Distribute and discuss the Types of Plays, Stage Areas, Scriptwriting Format, Preparing the Manuscript. Read out-loud the sample script “Tomorrow is Too Late.” Read and discuss the examples of Play Direction/Monologues. HW: Brainstorm and make some notes about something you feel strongly about, or a character who feels strongly about something. We will use this to create our own monologue next class.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Tips and Tricks of Photoshop and InDesign. Ask questions! Don’t be afraid! Take chances! Work on designing spreads. Late Nights this week are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4 to 7 PM.

English 9 A/A ~ Begin class with Do Now 7 C. Review Do Now. Split into small groups and check for completed first paragraphs of your Odyssey Five Paragraph Essay. Here’s a sample first paragraph. Read/discuss them in your small groups to make sure all eight sentences are present and well-thought. Distribute the Essay Quotations sheet. Find the three quotes to support your body paragraphs. Write them in the sheet and properly annotate them. Begin writing your three body paragraphs. Paragraph 2 (Body Paragraph 1) Sample. HW: Your first four paragraphs are due by next class. Next class we will write our conclusion paragraph.
