Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Writer’s Notebooks are due! Check for completed Non-Verbal script. Share Non-Verbal scripts. In class, work with a partner to create a small script based on a miscommunication or misunderstanding. HW: Complete the partner script. 5th Day Oral Freewrite is next class!

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Writer’s Notebooks are due! Complete your Author’s Statement sheet. Write your website across the very top and use the back to list all documents you added to your digital portfolio. Begin poetry of Pablo Neruda. Discuss Neruda and the Spanish Civil War. With a partner, begin the protest poem discussion “I’m Explaining a Few things” and analyze it. Begin writing your own protest poem using the guide to help you.  HW: Finish your protest poem to share on Friday. 5th Day Oral Freewrite is next class!

English 10 Honors ~ Discuss proper comma usage and complete worksheets 122 and 123. Quiz on Night chapters 7, 8, and 9. Begin “This I Believe” personal essay assignment. Read along to Weisel’s “This I Believe.” Spend some time brainstorming something you feel strongly about. Create your own “This I Believe” personal essay response. HW: “This I Believe” essay is due Friday. Vocab 39 and 5th Day Oral Freewrite are due next class.

Thursday, April 27 and Friday, April 28

Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Discuss situations where you physically weren’t able or allowed to talk. Read the non-verbal One-Act “The Stronger.” Discussion on who is the stronger? Begin writing a short, One-Act script that includes a character who doesn’t speak. Remember to convey emotions through body language. HW: Write your Non-Verbal script.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Discuss Author Statements which must include: brief summary of the piece, inspiration for it, strengths, things to change. Break into small groups and workshop, offer feedback for elements, spelling, and grammar. HW: Make sure your author’s statement is updated and you have finalized all elements for your digital portfolio/author’s website.

English 10 Honors ~ Quiz on Chapters 5 and 6 of Night. Return a ton of graded work. Review chapters 5 and 6. Read chapters 7, 8, and 9. Essentially, finish the book. HW: Review chapters 7,  8, and 9 for a quiz next class.

Tuesday, April 25 and Wednesday, April 26

Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Show completed Dumb Laws scripts. Assign small groups. Share your dumb laws scripts and pick the best one out of your group. Read out loud/share your dumb laws scripts. HW: Writer’s Notebooks.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Review PDF spreads and pages on your digital portfolio. Begin discussion about blog writing. Review Author’s Statement expectations. Write an author’s statement and share it in assigned small groups for proofreading. HW: Add your author’s statement to your digital portfolio.

English 10 Honors ~ Complete the grammar 119 Proofreading/Sentence Fragments sheet and hand it in.  Night quiz ch. 4. Review chapter 4. Begin chapters 5 and 6. HW: Read all of chapters 5 and 6 for a quiz next class.

Wednesday, April 19 and Thursday April 20

Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Review the dumb laws and script scenarios. Write your script during classtime. HW: Finish your dumb laws script.  We have an oral 5th Day Freewrite on Monday.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Discuss the digital portfolio project. We will discuss how to pdf design spreads, how to add pages and text to your portfolio, how to add copyright-free images. CW 2 students must create their portfolio, add the pages for About, Fiction, Poetry, and Design, add two pieces of writing, one author statement, and two spreads. CW 3/4 students must add two spreads, one piece of writing, and one author’s statement about that writing.

English 10 Honors ~ Discuss and complete the grammar worksheet about Sentence Fragments. Hand in the worksheet. Complete the quiz for Night chapters 1-3. Review  the events in chapters 1-3. HW: Vocab 38 Text and oral 5th Day Freewrite next class.

Monday, April 17 and Tuesday, April 18

Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Share monologues. Review Scriptwriting format. Discuss Dumb Laws. HW: Create a script using a dumb law. (Here is Wood’s example.) Choose one of the following scenarios: 1. What occurred that made this become a dumb law or 2. What would happen today if someone broke this dumb law and was arrested for it? Oral 5th Day Freewrite on Tuesday.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Discuss elements to include in your digital portfolio. Look at some portfolios. Begin designing your own digital portfolio/website. HW: You must have the following completed for your digital portfolio: title of website, pick a theme, include a copyright free image, customize colors/fonts/images, add pages–About, Fiction, Poetry, Design. Oral 5th Day Freewrite on Friday/Monday

English 10 Honors ~ Discuss run-on sentences. Complete WS 115 and 116 and hand it in. Review Elie Wiesel powerpoints 1 and 2. Begin reading Night. HW: Read all of the first three chapters. There will be a short answer quiz next class. Oral 5th Day freewrite and Vocab 38 are due Friday.
