“Don’t feel stupid that you don’t like what everyone pretends to love.” ~The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Stephen Chbosky

Creative Writing 1 ~ Using a photo for writing inspiration, write the first page of a story.  You must include the following: 3rd P-O-V, detail, a little bit of dialogue, sensory imagery, figurative language, avoid the verb “to be” (is, was, were, had —, has —.) This will force you to use more active verbs and more detail.  Example: He was angry. If this were changed it would sound better: Angry to the point his blood pressure spiked, Tom gritted his teeth as he sorted through the plastic letters.  Collect September Notebooks (30 pages, 35 for extra credit).  Begin the Story Machine activity: writing from an ending.  HW: Work on Story Machine.  One completed fiction piece, Peer Tutored, is due Monday, October 12.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute free write.  Discuss and grade the worksheet on “The Pit and the Pendulum.”  Lit Mag stuff!  Discuss upper editor positions available for application.  Do you want to do Spirit Buddies?  give me your contact info and t-shirt sizes.  Collect September notebooks  HW: Read “The Masque of the Red Death” and complete the worksheet.  Your completed Writer’s Eye piece for workshop is due Tuesday, October 13.
