Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a ten minute free write.  Have I checked your 30 page October Writer’s Notebook?  Final day to complete Fiction workshop.  Discuss the Bus Lines competition.  Using one of the three Bus Line prompts, write either a 100 word or fewer Flash Fiction story or a poem of ten words or less.  Click here for the Bus Lines information.  We will continue this next class.  HW: Get parents to sign off on the Bus Lines entry form.  Continue writing your November Writer’s Notebook.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Begin class with a ten minute free write.  Collect Writer’s Eye pieces with entry form attached.  Two copies, single-spaced for poetry; Two copies, double-spaced for prose.  The TITLE of your piece and the TITLE of the artwork that inspired it must be on EVERY SINGLE PAGE of your written piece.  In other words, if you have a three-page story, your title and art title should appear on all three pages.  We will read Tennessee Williams One-Act play, “27 Wagons Full of Cotton.”  Discuss Southern Gothic elements: tyrannical male, old plantation home, superstitions/omens, emotional female, gloomy atmosphere, grotesque.  Discuss stock character of Tennessee Williams’s plays: unstable female, abusive/tyrannical male, alcoholic or drug dependency, sexual issue, overly emotional character, music.  HW: Continue writing in November Writer’s Notebook.
