Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. All writer’s notebooks for the month of March are due today–30 pages! Discuss the art of letter writing. Read and discuss Garrison Keiller’s essay, “How to Write a Letter.” Mrs. Wood shares and discusses a letter she wrote herself when she was 18, that she opened and read when she was 28. Write a letter to yourself that will be opened in ten years or on your 28th birthday. Things you might want to consider and/or include: accomplishments, moved, relationship, college, career, friends, family, pets, house, current favorites–music, shows, movies, colors, food. Watch Brad Paisley’s video, “Letter to Me.” Imagine, what would your future self have to advice your current self?
HW: Write a minimum two page letter to yourself. Mrs. Wood will check that it is completed. THEN you can seal it in an envelope, write across the front of it and stash it in your underwear drawer so you will never lose it. Fun times!
