“Never trust a computer you can’t throw out a window.” ~ Steve Wozniak
Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute free write. Return character sketch pieces with teacher comments attached! Review part 1 of the fiction piece regarding sensory imagery. Use your character! Part 2, create a list of Major Life Events. Now, create a story where a character undergoes a major life event. Use a few of the sensory images you compiled to add a touch of realism to your character’s story. If your story is sparking your creativity, then finish it. If it’s falling flat and going nowhere then stop! We’ll start another writing prompt next class.
Creative Writing 2-4 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute free write. Review Understanding Fiction and the discussion on Theme. We will begin reading and discussing Flannery O’Connor’s story, “A Good Man is Hard to Find.” This will lead us into creating a story where atmosphere and theme drive the plot and the reader’s reaction to it. Don’t forget! The UVA Art Museum trip is Monday, September 23 from 10:30 AM to 2 PM. Bring your writer’s notebook and a pencil! You are not allowed to use an ink pen in the museum.
Filmmaking ~ We will continue Martin Scorsese’s film Hugo and the story (?) of Georges Melies. Work on your film analysis sheet. Next week will begin group scavenger hunts to become familiar with the film equipment.
