Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Read and discuss Garrison Keiller’s “Letter Writing.” Watch the Brad Paisley video “Letter to Me” and discuss. Begin your letter. HW: Write a letter to yourself to be opened in 10 years time. Show Ms. Wood the letter next class.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Visual Journaling and/or free time to work on necessary items. Have you posted your design PDFs to your website? Have you completed the Design rubric and turned it into Ms. Wood?

English 9 A/A ~ Review all Vocab 8 words. Discuss Subject/Verb Agreement issues for Singular and Plural Subjects and Indefinite Pronouns. Complete the worksheets and hand them in. Continue reading Romeo and Juliet Act II silently and work on the Act II Study Guide as you go along. HW: Complete cards/words for the first set of PED words: impediment, expedient, pedestrian. Review your Act II study guide for quiz when we finish reading all of Act II.

Wednesday, May 2 and Thursday, May 3

Creative Writing 1 ~ Check for completed Commercial screenplay. Share your screenplay with the class or Ms. Wood so she may read it and make comments. Next class, we will begin Non-Fiction.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Create PDFs of the spreads you made and post them on your digital portfolio. This will count as your semester project.

English 9 A/A ~ Begin class with a Do Now and discuss the changes. Review Vocab 7 words for about ten minutes. Complete the Vocab 7 Quiz. Using your Romeo and Juliet Act I Study Guide, complete the Act I quiz. Begin reading the prologue and Scene I of Act II. Work on the Act II Study Guide. HW: Sonnet project is due May 14/15.

Tuesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 2

Creative Writing 1 ~ Discuss the intent of advertising and discuss the various ads we watched last class. What are they like? (Selling a product, serious tone to make you think and mention product, conflict that needs resolving, humorous or weird to grab your attention and make you remember the product, cute may include songs, slogans…) Discuss the following sample screenplays of selling a product to an unlikely buyer. HW: Write a screenplay of between one and two pages in length where you are selling a product to an unlikely buyer. Share next class.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Share your non-sensical poems. How did you create your theme and use your words? Advice/positives for those shared?

English 9 A/A ~ Begin with a Do Now and discuss the corrections. Return graded work. Finish reading Act I of Romeo and Juliet. Complete your Act I Study Guide. HW: Vocab 7 Quiz next class. Sonnet projects are due May 14 and 15. Review your Act I Study Guide for R & J quiz next class.

Thursday, April 26 and Friday, April 27

Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Discuss Commercials and their purpose. Brainstorm products and the general audiences for those products. On your own or with a partner, write your own one to two page screenplay selling a product to an unlikely buyer. HW: Finish screenplay and share next class.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ We have the proof. Listen to upper editors instructions in making changes to the spreads for the printer. Reminder: Lit Mag End-of-Year party is CHAT on May 10.

English 9 A/A ~ Begin class with a Do Now and review it. Complete Vocab 7 Exercises using your Vocab 7 words as a review. Turn it in. Continue reading Act I of Romeo and Juliet. Be certain to fill in your Act I Study Guide as we go along. HW: Review Vocab 7 words for Vocab 7 text next Wednesday/Thursday. SONNET PROJECT DUE MAY 14/15.

Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute freewrite. Share your non-verbal script with the class. Begin Screenplay format discussion. Handouts: Screenplay format, common film shots, Mud screenplay. Watch the opening scene of Mud and compare it to the screenplay. Discuss the purpose of commercials.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Have you turned in your chart for two completed spreads? Discuss Non-sensical poetry and read/discuss Lewis Carroll’s Jabberwocky. Watch the following versions: using original illustrations and the Muppet Show. Create your own non-sensical words and apply them to a poem. HW: Write a minimum 8 line non-sensical poem to share next class.

English 9 A/A ~ Begin class with a Do Now and review it. Check for PHIL words. Discuss Romeo and Juliet powerpoint. Distribute character worksheets. Read Prologue and complete the sheet. Begin reading Act I, scene i. We will stop at line 153. Complete up to this point on your Act I Study Guide. HW: Review your vocabulary 7 words.
