Creative Writing 1 ~ Show your completed school related Non-Fiction stories. Share an excerpt of your story with the class. Keep in mind, Non-Fiction should include the same elements as Fiction: voice, hook, imagery/detail, figurative devices–similie, metaphor, hyperbole, personification, onomatopoeia; characterization both direct and indirect, diaglogue, pacing, action, conflict/resolution, make your reader see something differently. DO YOU OWE ANY WORK?!

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Continue Neruda unit. Look at a few other Social Justice poems and write your own Social Justice poem. DO YOU OWE ANY WORK?!

English 10 Honors ~ Discuss Elements of Poetry: Imagery. Discuss World War I Poets Sassoon, Owen, and Thomas. Read and discuss their poems. Discuss the Pantoum form. HW: Write your own Pantoum form being certain to include imagery/detail. DO YOU OWE ANY WORK?!

Discuss the five questions that pertain to Neruda’s “Poem 20.” Read and discuss Neruda’s poem, “If You Forget Me.” HW: Write a love poem about loss, either losing someone or something OR someone or something losing you.

English 10 Honors ~ Complete the final vocab 40 and 41 quiz.  Grammar worksheet. Collect and share, if you’d like, your Rhyming Couplet poem.  Discuss Elements of Poetry Tone. Read, discuss, and answer questions for Langston Hughes and Lucille Clifton. HW: Write your own response to “Mother to Son.” Be certain it includes an obvious tone.

Creative Writing 1 ~ Check for completed Commercial screenplays. Share screenplays and ideas. Begin Non-Fiction. Discuss Garrison Keillor’s “How to Write a Letter.” Mrs. Wood will share an embarassing letter she wrote to herself when she turned 18. Use the following guide to help you write a letter to yourself to be opened in ten years time. Watch Brad Paisley’s Letter to Me. HW: Finish your letter and show it for credit next class.

Creative Writing 1 ~ Review the Culminating Project assignment. Discuss marketing and products for specific buyers. Look and discuss a few commercial screenplays for selling a product to an unlikely buyer. HW: Write a two-page screenplay where a product is being sold to an unlikely buyer. Convince the buyer they WANT and NEED this product.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Reminder to students who must complete their digital portfolio information. Show and share your completed Protest poem. Read “Poem 20” by Pablo Neruda and discuss. HW: Complete the five questions about “Poem 20.”

English 10 Honors ~ Review the English Culminating Project assignment. Finish watching Life is Beautiful. Do you still have out any texts? HW: Final vocab test for 40 and 41 is Friday.
