Creative Writing 1 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute free write.  Do the assigned Tech Tuesday activity for your class period.  What is Poetry?  Discuss the 3 R’s of Poetry (Rhyme, Rhythm, Repetition, *Reason).  Discuss the article, “The Muse in the News.”  Share poems: Wilfred Owen’s “Dulce et Decorum est,” Alfred Noyes’s “The Highwayman,” and Joyce Kilmer’s “Trees.” HW: Writer’s Notebooks are due on Thursday.

Creative Writing 2, 3, 4 ~ Begin class with a 10-minute free write.  Collect November writer’s notebooks. Read and discuss the ballad, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Finish the close reading worksheet.  Listen to Johnny Cash’s “The Ballad of Ira Hayes.” You will begin researching a story, myth, tale, legend…that will inspire your own ballad poem.  What your ballad must include: Four line stanzas, iambic tetrameter and trimeter, rhyme scheme of a, b, c, b, minimum of eight stanzas.  HW: Have the “story” you are going to write about ready for class discussion next class.
